scenario: you are a human female. you see a human male mating with a female chimpanzee. and after its over, you find the male much more attractive than he was before he mated. sounds crazy right? this is exactly what happens in the amazon mollie.
amazon mollies are all females, and they produce clones. they need sperm from sailfin male mollies however, to trigger the change from egg to zygote. The sperm does nothing but trigger it, it doesn’t recombine, doesn’t get used, etc. its just a catalyst for clone production. and then, afterwards, female sailfin mollies that watched, find the males much more attractive. awesome. just thought id share.
